I was elected on three platforms, and I intend to act on my three platforms to bring long-lasting and meaningful change to KYA. We have a mandate, now it's time to get to work.
When running for Presiding Officer, I pledged I would increase our democracy. That starts with our very own KYA elections. Most Presiding Officers win their elections with far from a majority of the vote. We can change this, and under my initiative, we will. RCV would mean that delegates rank their candidates in order, and then, the candidate with the least first choice votes is eliminated. All the people who had voted for that candidate would now have their votes go to their second choice. This would continue until there are the three for Bluegrass or four for Commonwealth candidates left, at which point positions would be assigned based on vote share. This would ensure that the elected Presiding Officers would have the support of most delegates, and ensure no one's voice goes unheard.
Keeping with my platform of improving our democracy, I believe that handing out "I Voted" stickers to delegates after they voted would encourage turnout and give delegates a real sense of how it is to vote in real life. These could be procured for very cheap.
I also think it would help delegates make better informed decisions if, during one of the General Assemblies, candidates took questions from the broader public about their platforms and policies. This would do two things; first, it would mean candidates would be tested in something new, speaking on the spot, and second, it would mean delegates might be able to find out more about a candidate than just what's on their trifold.
